Embodied Mindfulness and Self-Care

Why self-care?

In today’s culture and in these challenging times, self-care is a vital and somewhat radical act. It challenges the dominant norms of productivity and busy-ness as the ultimate goals, and celebrates the inherent value and uniqueness of each individual. We cannot have healthy or thriving relationships, communities or societies, if we are operating from a place of depletion or stress as individuals. The more we are resourced and nourished ourselves, the more we can enjoy life, be present, have healthy relationships and express our full potential.

Why ‘embodied’ mindfulness and self-care?

Our culture predominantly values rationality, science and intellect, and as a result many people live in their heads, with their bodies and emotions somewhat disconnected or out of balance. If this is not consciously countered, it can cause stress, anxiety, reactivity, overwhelm, burn-out, addictive behaviours, challenging relationships, illness, and general mental or emotional un-wellness.

Becoming more aware of our minds, bodies and emotions, and the relationship between them, can greatly enhance well-being.  Finding more balance between these different aspects of yourself can improve your capacity to function, and to flourish in your work and relationships. It creates more harmony and wellbeing, and allows you to tap into your inner wisdom and creativity with ease.

By adopting a more holistic approach to self-care, you can develop better self-awareness and resilience, and in turn be more resourced to meet life’s challenges and express your full potential. In the workshops we also look at how you can ‘embody’ and integrate mindfulness and self-care in your everyday life.

Workshops for Groups and Organisations

Developing mindfulness and self-care practices can be a powerful way to enhance the wellbeing, creativity and capacity of your group or team members. I offer half-day and full-day workshops, ranging from introductory to in-depth engagement with the concepts and practice of mindfulness and self care. Goals and content are tailored to each group or organisation.

By building resilience and self-awareness, participants learn how to take care of their own health and well-being, and are supported to flourish as individuals. The workshops create an opportunity to share experiences, learning, and suggestions for self-care and mindfulness in a group context, which in turn builds solidarity and support for enhancing wellbeing within the group. Participants are then also better-resourced to support each other, and to express their passions, values and skills in a way that has greater positive impact on the wider group and society.

My emphasis is on offering engaging sessions that are fun, inspiring and motivating, as well as creating a deep impact and including lots of practical elements that can apply in participants’ work and personal lives. I can combine a variety of formats depending on the group’s preferences, including: information inputs, individual reflection exercises, creative expression exercises; guided meditation & visualisation; music & movement; small group / pair discussions, wider group discussion and sharing of resources or ideas.

~ “It was a nurturing experience, time out for me, time to reflect on my daily life, my self-care, my stress triggers, underlying causes of my tensions, time flew I felt so engaged in the activities.”

~ “The content was really strong, interesting and relevant. Tone and facilitation style were excellent.”

~ “The examples of tools to support self-care were the most useful, especially as it was done in a peer learning environment, with all of us sharing what works for us.”

~ “The meditations and visualisations were really user-friendly and reminded me that meditation is not some impossible thing to do.”

~ “Self-reflection can become emotional and unlock things that aren’t always appropriate in training spaces. This workshop created the perfect atmosphere and tone for reflection and support, without going to inappropriate or triggering terrain.”
